Definitely a cool product and from my searching this product is essentially the only thing I could find aside from Trijicons factory caps or One hundred concepts ACOG pro cap but that’s been discontinued..
The cap is rigid enough for its purpose and under regular shooting conditions encountered by civilian shooters this cap seems like it would hold up fine. It’s a polymer ring that friction presses over the rear objective lens of the optic body and “clicks” into place. When flipped down it sits under the optic body and is out of the way of the charging handle
Instructions say start fitting the ring at the top of the optic body and once it’s in place “gently” push on the bottom of the ring and it will click into place… however in my experience the ring is very tight fitting and requires a firm press instead of a gentle one. You also have to make sure you line the ring up properly or it won’t go in place. The cap also came tied to the ring but was very tight and the shot cord would get in the way of the underside of the ring when attempting to press it over the optic. I had to hold the shot cord back while trying to press down and keep everything lined up at the same time
It took me 3 attempts to get the ring to finally seat over the optic and on one of those attempts while attempting to push the bottom of the ring in place the ring slipped and contacted the rear glass lens of my ACOG leaving a transfer mark that I then had to spend 15 min cleaning and overthinking that I had just scratched my ACOGS lens.
At the end of that mishap I finally got the ring to seat over the optic. Cleansed my lens and breathed a sigh of relief when I noticed it wasn’t damaged.. the ring went on but wasn’t lined up completely so I attempted to spin the ring on the optic but it’s so firmly in place that I wasn’t able to get it to spin so I just left it off alignment. It works and it’s fully seated so my OCD can just stay where it is..
They also sent a secondary replacement ring in case the first was damaged in the mail. Which is awesome and I appreciate greatly.
In the future/ constructive feedback. Maybe do some fine sanding to the inside of the ring after printing to make the fit easier. Or do some test fitting on a company ACOG to ensure fit.. Also maybe leave the cap and ring untied so the shock cord doesn’t get in the way of the bottom of the ring during installation. I know I could have sanded it myself and fit it myself but I don’t wanna mess with that and I didn’t want to cut the cord and use the replacement cord…
Aside from me having hard time getting the ring on (user error)the cap is great and the secondary replacement ring free of charge is appreciated … 5 stars
